If you suffer from problems such as crackling during sleep, grinding of your teeth or pain in the jaw joint, you are in good hands at our practice for osteopathy and physiotherapy.
CMD (craniomandibular dysfunction) refers to functional disorders of the jaw joint (masticatory system), affecting the interaction between upper and lower jaw. Our masticatory system is connected to the whole body via fasciae, muscles, tendons and nerves. Therefore, disorders of the masticatory system can affect the entire body.
The range of impacts of these dysfunctions can vary. Often, even ear noises (tinnitus), migraine or problems in the shoulder and neck area can be traced back to disorders or blockades of the jaw joint – all of which we are able to treat.
If the interaction of the jaws is disturbed due to a fall, a punch, stress or bad habits of chewing and swallowing afflictions or noises in the jaw joint may be the result. Moreover, problems of the shoulder girtle and pelvis can have effects on the jaw joint. Conversely, untreated disorders of the jaw joint can affect the entire organism.
As your therapists, we search for asymmetries and tensions in the body in order to treat them. It is our target to restore the body’s natural balance.
The treatment aims at compensating dysfunctions (such as muscle dysbalances, malpositions of the joints and compensatory movement patterns), which otherwise can lead to an overload of the jaw joints and malocclusion.
By treating the individual cranial bones and their connections (sutures) the therapist can support dentists and orthodontists with their work.
